Our Wine Meet Cute

Porto, Lisbon

Our Story

Annie booked a wine tour through Airbnb Experience last minute, and it had one seat available next to the tour guide. His name was Ricardo. He guided the people through the beautiful and vast landscape of Duoro Valley and the vineyards. During the ride back, Annie and Ricardo started to share about their passions and how they want to contribute to the world by creating a conduit between wines from the small producing vineyards to all those who value them. And voila, The Small Boutique was born.

Annie

I am an LA native, an avid traveler, and a wine enthused human being  who is always on a hunch for a good bottle of wine for every day, every occasion and for every mood. All wine is so special to me as if I am part of a history in a bottle: the alteration of the soil and the individualized touch of nature on every grape to the invoking and soothing of emotion when it touches my pallet, and how sacred that no wine can be the same, even from the same vineyard… even though that may be the winemaker’s intent. There’s an art form that I find to be so… intoxicatingly romantic and sacred. My passion lies in making good and rare wines accessible, enhancing wine knowledge from a place of curiosity and strength, and connecting people to wine and highlighting human connection and friendships one bottle at a time.

A part of my life has been dedicated to Tourism. Initially in the hospitality side and later in the Wine Tours category. Since I was born, I always lived in a wine making environment because my grandparents were local wine producers for our family’s own consumption. The smell of fermentation, distillery and oak filled up my house, especially during harvest time!

Last few years I noticed that the wine culture its part of my hobbies and why not to share and turn it into one of my jobs too? At the moment I host people from all over the world to share with them the Portuguese wines, the Portuguese cuisine and our culture.

During COVID lockdown I dreamt about helping small and family run wineries to let their wonderful wines to go further around the globe! It’s why we are here today, building The Small Barrel to make sure everybody has access to the most beautiful and non commercial wines:

The real and authentic wines from small producers who invest all their love and passion to make one of the best nectars in the world!
